Valerie Thompson – America’s Queen of Speed
Valerie Thompson, 7x land Speed Record holder has become the reaching a speed 304.263 (489.663 km/h) on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, on September 1, 2016. Valerie and Team 7 Racing are in preparation for a world record attempt for the overall motorcycle land speed record in 2017. Current record is 376.363 mph.
Thompson is often referred to as “America’s Queen of Speed”, she has earned the famed “Red Hat” in the Bonneville 200 MPH Club, and is a member of the prestigious Bonneville BUB Speed Trial 201 MPH Club. Valerie has also earned her place in the Mojave Magnum 200 MPH Club, the ECTA 200 MPH Club, the Texas Mile 200 MPH Club and the Colorado Mile, including a personal best of 217.7 MPH (350.53 KM/H) on a BMW S 1000 RR at the Texas Mile in 2014
Valerie started her drag racing career in 2006 on quarter-mile tracks in the All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) and returning 2017 to the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle series. Her desire to go faster, and break more records, led her to form her own land speed-racing team, Valerie Thompson Racing, in 2012.
Racing Awards & Accolades
Valerie’s full-throttle lifestyle has inspired filmmakers, authors and songwriters alike. She is featured in the 2013 documentary film, “Why We Ride,” the Discovery Channel program “Mega Speed,” and the “Bonneville Stories” video, profiling the life of a professional motorcycle racer in a tough, unforgiving and dangerous career. She has even been featured in a GoDaddy Super Bowl commercial!
The award- winning rock band, CTS, wrote the popular song “Quarter Mile” for Valerie and she received the Red Carpet Award for her inclusion in Delores Seright’s book, “Amazing Women: Shattering Barriers.” She is also featured in the 2013 book, “90 Years BMW Motorrad.” Valerie’s leathers and other racing gear are currently on display at the Hopkins BMW Motorcycle Museum in Highland, Maryland.
Valerie surrounds herself in a world of speed even off the racetrack, working as vehicle presenter at Barrett-Jackson Auction Company, LLC and Metro Auto Auctions in her hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona. Between her work, racing commitments and many special appearances each year, Valerie donates time supporting and inspiring children overcoming personal challenges with charitable organizations, which earned her the 2011 “American Women Riders Community Hero Award.”
